While it may sometimes look painful, even distressing to die, the reality is, most people experience no pain at all.
What the Other Side has taught me...
A few years back, I had the honor and privilege of connecting with a wonderful chap in spirit who had passed from a tragic motorcycle accident.
He was on his way home from work when he lost control of his bike on a quiet and dark country road.
When his body was found, several hours later, he had already passed.
His family was very distressed, as you can imagine. They wondered, did my loved one die in pain? Did he suffer alone at the end?
Death feels like floating on champagne bubbles...
So I asked my friend in Spirit to describe his passing to me.
What he shared, I've heard described in similar ways before from others in Spirit.
He told me the moment he lost control of his bike, his soul IMMEDIATELY left his body.
While the damage to his body was significant (and graphic), he said he felt no pain whatsoever.
He could see his body, laying there. Beaten up and looking rough.
He knew he had died. He knew his family would miss him. Yet, all he could feel was an indescribable love and peace.
He said it was "like floating on champagne bubbles" - and I've remembered his words ever since.
It is not uncommon for the soul to leave the body before it experiences a tragic event.
When I shared this information with his family, there were immediate tears of relief.
For years they had worried he had suffered. Now they know that wasn't the case. That he transitioned in peace.
But what about painful causes of death - like Cancer for instance?
If a person is in a hospital or hospice setting, proper management of medication can keep people pain-free while their soul transitions to the Afterlife.
When people are dying, they usually sleep a lot or drift into a coma where again there is very little to no pain experienced.
When my Nana transitioned, this was the case for her. She was in a hospital bed when she passed. Surrounded by her family.
She later told me, when in Spirit, that while her passing looked "pretty awful", [which it did] she was not in any pain.
She described her soul as floating in and out of her body and being aware of everyone in the room.
Nana said leaving her body felt natural and normal. She told me “death was like going home...”
